Details for amaxa FAQ article #355

«How can cells be cured of mycoplasma contamination?»

You can use Plasmocin™, an antibiotic formulation Amaxa (now a part of the Lonza group) offers for curing your infected primary cells or cell lines. Plasmocin consists of two components which act solely on mycoplasma-specific targets.
This ensures that there are no toxic side effects that could damage your cells and thus mammalian cellular mechanisms will remain physiologically normal.

Using Plasmocin to treat your cell cultures is very simple:
just add the recommended dose (12-25 µg/ml) to your culture medium for at least two weeks.
If mycoplasma elimination is not complete after the two week treatment, you may continue treatment for an additional week and/or increase the concentration to 37.5 µg/ml.
