History

- amaxa's first »office« in Berlin '99
amaxa was founded in 1998 by the biologists Gregor Siebenkotten and Rainer Christine. Gregor and Rainer, former university colleagues, had experienced that their scientific work in immunology was impaired by the lack of efficient technologies for gene transfer into primary cells.
It turned out that this was a general problem obstructing scientific and application-oriented progress in various areas. Taking up this challenge, amaxa's mission is to develop and commercialize innovative gene transfer technologies and products addressing unmet market needs, and to leverage them for industrial, academic, and clinical applications.

In May 2001, amaxa launched its first product group (Nucleofector with cell type-specific kits) and successfully completed its second round of financing, raising EURO 13 million. In 2002, amaxa took its first steps in the US, establishing its operations in Maryland, USA.
amaxa quickly grew from the two people at the start in 1998 to currently 150, comprising an exquisite research team, a rapidly expanding marketing and sales organization, and a dynamic management. By now, strong sales finance the company's further development and allow amaxa to employ one of the world's largest research groups in the field of non-viral gene transfer.
